USAWrestling/Cliff Keen Folkstyle Nationals 2013
The
Wolves added three more All-American Awards on April 6th at Folkstyle
Nationals in Iowa. Tristan Moran (5th place) and Dalton Moran (6th
place) both became All-Americans, and Dalton Brady became a National
Champion.

Brady’s unselfishness as impressive as four state titles

Brian Brady has all the confidence in his son, Dalton, and the
latter credited his father for developing him into one of the best
wrestlers the state of Arizona has ever seen.
But they were at odds heading into the state tournament.
Dalton made an unselfish decision to bump up two weight classes in order to allow the Wolves to have its most potent lineup.
Brian wasn’t sure about the decision because he knew Dalton could be giving up a chance — as slight as it might have been — at history.
“I would not have done that,” Brian said. “It’s pretty cool that he did, but there is no way I’d do that. It is asking a lot.”
It turned out the elder Brady was right to be hesitant when it came to facing Cesar Chavez’s Dajour Reece in the 138-pound finals. Reece, a former state champion, stood nearly 6 feet and had about 5 inches on Dalton.
Leverage in wrestling, which lankiness provides, can be everything. It is easier to fight off attacks and the wingspan can make all the difference in winning a scramble.
Brady and Reece were tied heading into the third period before Brady finally secured the winning takedown to become the state’s 28th four-time champion and the Tribune’s Wrestler of the Year.
“It was tough until I figured out to drop my elevation,” Brady said afterward. “I was like, thank God.”
Even the unselfish decision to help the team in one more individual sport didn’t payoff, as the Wolves finished second to Sunnyside, Brady was still confident he made the right choice.
“I was confident,” he said. “I just knew I could handle it and took it upon myself to do it. I wanted to win my fourth, but I also wanted to win our second team title just as much.”
After going 156-1 in his high school career, it is time to re-establish himself at the national and possibly international level.
Brady has big goals ahead with Fila Junior this summer, a scholarship to Utah Valley, and a possible return to the Olympic Training Center in the months to come.
He lost in the quarterfinals of last year’s Fila Juniors, his first year at that age group (17 to 20), with hopes of taking the next step and qualifying for the Fila Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The team trials June 20-23 in Stillwater, Okla., give him a chance to compete against the nation’s best.
“It’s the ultimate goal,” Brady said. “Winning four state titles was a goal for a long time, but I’ve always had bigger goals out there.”

Chandler wrestling welcomes Utah Valley University Wrestling Camp 2013
Erkin Tadzhimetov - Associate Head Coach at Utah Valley will be conducting a 5 day camp at Chandler High School - June 24 - June 28.
Cost will $125 per wrestler
Clinician:
Erkin Tadzhimetov is the Associate Head Coach at UVU. Erkin was a 9 x Uzbekistan National Champion and 3 x World Junior Placer. He was a NJCAA runner-up for Colby College and was the all-time win leader for UVU in his senior season.Camp Counselors:
Jade Rauser is a redshirt freshman at UVU. He was a 4 x MT Champion and Junior National Triple Crown Winner and Pan-American Games Champion

Chandler’s Dalton Brady wins 4th state wrestling title

PRESCOTT VALLEY — He saved perhaps his toughest match for last, but it ended the same as all of the others — with a victory.
Welcome Dalton Brady to Arizona’s club of four-time state champions. The Chandler High 138-pound senior won a hard-fought Division I championship match against Laveen Cesar Chavez junior Dajour Reece on Friday at Tim’s Toyota Center to become the 28th Arizona wrestler to win four titles. He also has titles at 103, 112 and 120.
“I’m just psyched right now,” Brady said. “It’s a very exclusive club, and now I’m part of it.”
Brady and Reece wrestled to a 0-0 draw after the first period, with Brady scoring a takedown and Reece an escape in the second for a 2-1 Brady lead. Reece got another escape to tie it in the third but then gave Brady a point for stalling.
That’s when Brady went to work. With time running down, he grabbed ahold of Reece’s leg and eventually scored another takedown, winning the match 5-3 to run his season record to 33-0.
“It was a tight match,” Brady said. “I had that leg, and he was fighting it the whole time, but I ducked up and came through and finished it, and I was like, ‘It’s over.’”
Brady’s efforts were not enough for Chandler to win the Division I team title, however, as that went to Tucson Sunnyside, which had won 14 consecutive state team championships before having that streak snapped last season.
Sunnyside was helped by an emotional pair of victories by the Olivas brothers, Juaqin and William. Juaqin, a sophomore, won at 113 pounds, while William, a junior, took home the 126-pound title.
“It’s unbelievable,” Juaqin said. “Being brothers, and doing the same thing at the same time, it just feels really awesome.”
“It’s the best thing in the world,” William said.
Four undefeated wrestlers squared off at 160 and 170 pounds Friday. Tempe Corona del Sol junior Ethan Tursini (44-0) defeated Avondale Westview junior Kordell Provchy (34-1), and then Chandler Basha junior Trey Ronayne (42-0) beat Anthem Boulder Creek junior Jro Byrd (44-1).
